Colonial Cabana

Having completed a new pool on the property, the clients were ready for their dream pool-house/cabana to be sensitively fit into their gentle rolling hill leading down to the pool deck. The building was conceived as a miniature of the main house, with historic details and features integrated into this contemporary 760 SF pool-house/ guest house.

Designed as a ‘not so big house’, the building was constructed to Energy Star specifications, with an insulated slab on grade and expanding spray foam walls and roof. Heated by a high efficiency water heater and radiant flooring, the cabana has a back up wood stove coupled to an air movement system to evenly distributes heat in the winter , and help naturally cool the building in the summer with fans tied to thermostats and ventilating skylights that are shaded by the surrounding trees.

This complete small house has a full kitchen with custom cabinets, laundry, separate bath and powder room, ships-ladder to open sleeping loft above a spacious living/ entertainment room, with a separate entry from the pool to the bathrooms. An outdoor shower is located next to a separate mechanical and pool storage room on the back side of the house, with an outdoor barbecue grill integrated with a beautifully crafted series of exterior stone walls that blend into the base of the building and ties the building to the landscape.
